‘I’VE only just come back down to earth’.

That sums up the last two weeks for Mark ‘Tiny’ Walters, the taxi driver who organised the winning syndicate in the Les Bourgs Hospice million pound lottery.

Ever since the final number of his syndicate’s ticket was pulled out of the bag by Lt-Governor Sir Fabian Malbon a little more than two weeks ago, the popular cabbie has been the toast of the island.

‘It has just about sunk in now,’ he said. ‘The first week was a total blur but I think people have settled down now and started making plans with what to do with the money.’

The 30-strong syndicate, mainly made up of taxi drivers, their friends, family and customers, each received a little more than £33,000.

The group had a big party last week to celebrate their good fortune.

‘It was a really good night,’ he said. ‘We might have indulged to excess.’

The money had made so many lives better, Mr Walters said, and he hoped another syndicate would be the lucky winners of the next draw – scheduled for October.
