STEVE SAUNDERS was not British trials champion for nothing and two decades after first winning the Guernsey two-dayer he returned to do it again.
Despite carelessly twice dropping five points by failing to properly enter the starting gates, Saunders eased to the experts title with just 19 penalty points.
‘I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my two days,’ said Saunders in the Vazon pits afterwards.
‘The sun’s been shining and everywhere there’s been beautiful views.’
Tom Nichols from the UK was second on 41. Guernsey’s Tom Scott finished a fine third on 53 and at the same time spearheaded Guernsey’s comfortable win in the inter-insular experts competition.
The Sarnians also won the clubman’s match with Steve de Carteret leading the way.
Twenty sections divided between 11 west coast venues decided the outcome and right from the off on the rocks at L’Eree headland, it was clear Scott was going to push the visitors.
