A US firm that claims to have discovered the wreck of HMS Victory has reassured people that it is treating the site with the ‘utmost respect’.
It comes after concerns were raised by the President of the Alderney States, Sir Norman Browse, who also called for its location to be revealed.
Odyssey Marine Exploration said Admiral Balchin’s HMS Victory lies nearly 100 kilometres from the Channel Islands – and is beyond the UK and France’s territorial waters and contiguous zone.
‘Every aspect of the project thus far has been in compliance with strict archaeological protocols and conducted by highly experienced and qualified archaeologists in close coordination with the Ministry of Defence,’ said Aladar Nesser, the company’s director of international relations.
‘Furthermore, with the agreement of the MoD, two cannon were successfully raised with the greatest care and are now being conserved in an MoD facility – all at Odyssey’s cost.’
Sir Norman, who is chairman of the Alderney Maritime Trust, raised fears that the site would be desecrated.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
Once the cannon and other artifacts are put on display in various museums, it will bring this period of British history to life again, for all the children and others who see these precious and historic items.
Rather then being pulled and damaged by the currents and fishing trawlers, they can be preserved in a proper environment, and become a living part of the British history.

Once again someone like SIR spouts off without knowing what he is talking about. Odyssey Marine has the skill, archaeological expertise and equipment to salvage this ship. SIR has been brain washed by the publish or perish mob. Run with the dogs and you catch the flees.

Gee, I just don’t know; Leave the historic flagship of the British fleet laying on the bottom to be destroyed by trawlers and plundered by fly-by-night illegal salvage operators, OR let Odyssey Marine do a careful, detailed, professional job of underwater archeology and artifact retrieval, sharing their finds with the world.
The real issue here is one of greed; The British want a fat chunk of the rumored billion dollars worth of coin that went down with the Victory. I say give England the cannons and artifacts, Odyssey deserves the gold!
