Victory over nearest rivals moves Lions closer to title

0687626.jpgLIONS A are just three matches away from claiming the Division One league title for the fourth consecutive season following a key 6-4 victory over their title rivals Whistlers A.

The win puts the Lions side three points clear at the top, with only three games remaining in the season.

The clash between the two sides has been close on each occasion this season, with the previous three meetings ending all square through 5-5 draws.

Lions made sure of victory this time, despite a slow start.

Alice Loveridge got Whistlers off to the better start by defeating Tim Le Page in a fairly routine straight-games win.

However, Garry Dodd (pictured) was equally impressive in his straight games victory over Mark Pipet and levelled the match at 1-1.

Phil Hunkin was on next for the Whistlers side and he showed promise by winning the opening game against Phil Ogier, but Ogier’s consistent game was eventually too great as he won in four to put Lions 2-1 up.
