NIALL ADAMS has claimed his first European squash title.

The 10-year-old Sarnian was number one seed in the under-11 boys’ event at the Welsh Junior Open and proved that he was a step above the rest in this age group throughout the weekend.

Irish No. 1 Oisin Dunne was the only player to challenge the young Guernsey boy during the final and despite his good fighting spirit, Adams comfortably won this match 11-2, 11-2, 11-7.

‘Niall has continued to improve throughout this year and has learnt through experience to select the most efficient shots without giving up his attacking game,’ said island director of squash Ben Rosec.

‘He needs to keep this momentum going for the next U-13 age group, which he is now entering.

‘This European tour title is a great achievement for Niall.’

Five young Sarnians travelled to Cardiff to take part in the tournament at the Welsh Institute of Sport, competing against some of the best European players.

Matthew Robilliard, Zak Parsons and Tom Eulenkamp all competed in under-19 event.
