Island Coachways’ driver Paul Jameson is among its staff who will be muncing a Fairtrade banana today as part of the world record attempt.
ISLAND Coachways is among the local companies planning to join in a world record attempt.
The bid to eat the largest number of Fairtrade bananas in 24 hours starts today.
The bus company will be encouraging its staff and passengers to eat as many as possible at the Town terminus between 12.30 and 1.30pm.
Office manager Jenny Down has been encouraging the company to use Fairtrade products for many years.
‘I have been committed to Fairtrade for many years and lobbied for other people to get involved in the workplace,’ she said.
‘We are proud to support Fairtrade Fortnight and have taken steps to ensure we are using Fairtrade products throughout the business, such as ensuring we supply Fairtrade tea and coffee in the machines in the drivers’ rest room.’
She said that it was a small change in their daily lives, but had a huge impact on those in need around the world.
The world record attempt is taking place all over the UK to support Fairtrade Fortnight. About 275,000 people have so far signed up to take part in the challenge.
