0734851.jpgFIREFIGHTERS tackled a small blaze in a ground-floor flat on Saturday evening.

Investigations are ongoing into what caused the blaze in a kitchen of 3, Havilland Street, St Peter Port.

It is not being treated as suspicious.

Duty officer at the time and community fire safety manager Andy Mauger said smoke alarms in the building had given those in it early warning of the problem.

‘I would recommend that fire alarms are fitted to any and every premises,’ he said.

A call came in about it at 7.02pm.

Two appliances were sent and the duty and the senior officer also attended.

When firefighters arrived, the building’s residents were already outside.
