THE Bon Port Hotel has launched what is believed to be the first menu to use only Guernsey produce.

Every single dish and ingredient that the establishment cooks for the next two months will have been produced locally.

If it catches on and the Guernsey public supports it, co-owner Mark Galins said it would become a permanent fixture at the south-coast hotel.

He said other restaurants had presented menus including Guernsey dishes before, but none had gone as far as this and in so much detail.

‘It took about two months to source all the produce. It’s a lot more difficult than it sounds to find Guernsey produce that is totally grown here.

‘We turned up at several farms and although they were saying it was all Guernsey produce, there were packs of carrots lying around in packaging from Holland.

‘So there’s nothing on our menu that’s not from Guernsey. Even the stock we use is made from the bones and offal of Guernsey-reared animals.’
