It’s crunch time

This season has been one of the tightest in the 116 years that the old trophy has been contested.

Three points behind their great rivals North, Bels need to win at home at the Track to force a play-off, while a draw would be enough to see the chocolate-and-blues take the honours.

With Bels boss Micky Ogier unavailable for comment yesterday, former captain Leighton Chainey (pictured) described the mood in the reigning champions’ camp.

‘It’s a massive game and all the boys are up for it,’ said the veteran centre half.

‘It’s still in our hands. We’ve got to beat them twice. It’d be nice if it went to another game.’

Bels have an injury doubt over striker AJ Saunders, who limped off with a hamstring problem during the defeat at St Martin’s on Saturday and the former Northerner looks set to miss tonight.

North have a question mark over Simon Tostevin, who went over on his left ankle during North’s win over Rovers on Saturday.

Mick Le Prevost yesterday admitted that this evening’s encounter is one of the biggest in his three years in charge of North.
