Club ask for support

SPONSORS are needed for the Guernsey race meeting.
The current financial climate has resulted in three backers from last year’s meeting pulling out.
The Guernsey Race Club have found a new sponsor for the second race in SG Hambros.
However, they are very keen to find backers for the last two races at the big annual meeting on the L’Ancresse course, which this year is being held on bank holiday Monday 4 May.
‘We’ve had a few people pull out for various reasons and we’ve targeted some people directly but without success,’ said Guernsey Race Club committee member Bob Le Bargy.
‘The races will definitely happen, but we’d have to underwrite them and we’ve not got a surplus. It would put us in a difficult financial situation.’
Great supporters of Guernsey racing, the Froome family, are for the fifth year running sponsoring the 2.30pm opening race, the Bob Froome memorial handicap, which is to be run over six furlongs.
And local stockbrokers Cenkos are once again sponsoring the big race of the day – the Cenkos Channel Islands Handicap, which is over two miles and one furlong.
