IT IS Groundhog Day as the final of the Island Snooker Championship will see Adam Shorto face Martyn Desperques.

It will be the fifth year running that Guernsey’s top two players have met each other in the final.

‘I think everybody is fed up,’ joked Shorto, 27.

‘I always enjoy playing Martyn as it’s a good test. It’d be nice to play someone else in the final, but at the end of the day we’re the top two players and we’re in form.

‘People are knocking on the door, but they can’t quite get there.’

An illustration that ‘people are knocking on the door’ was Desperques’ passage to the final.

He was taken the full distance by his Chirpers teammate Graham Peel in the semi-finals.
