HAVING reached the quarter-finals of the Kuala Lumpur Open last week, Chris Simpson is returning to Guernsey to play at first string in the men’s team in the annual Ogier-sponsored inter-insular clash.
Matches start tomorrow at 11am at Beau Sejour with the veteran men and women, followed by the men’s and women’s B matches and culminating in the women’s and men’s A team matches later from 2.20pm.
Simpson’s match is likely to be the match of the day when he takes on Jersey’s new director of squash and ex professional, Nick Taylor.
With only one ranking point between them, according to the England Squash ranking system, this is destined to be one of the greatest matches islanders will have witnessed on these shores for some years.
They are due on court at 3.40pm.
Jersey’s number two string Mike Hopkins is also a force to be reckoned with.
However, Guernsey hope to have more depth in their first squad with Ross Kneller, Ben Rosec, Henry Birch and Steve Le Ray.
