GUERNSEY were left punch-drunk by the North of England Select in Friday night’s Dinner Boxing Show at St Pierre Park.
The visitors took the event eight bouts to two.
The Northerners must each have had four Shredded Wheat for breakfast because they generally had better movement and hit harder than the Amalgamated Boys’ Club fighters.
Callum Pearson and Wayne Calladine were the only green-vested boxers to win.
Bradley Watson, stepping in for a sick Matt Jennings at the top of the bill, put in an uncharacteristic flat display to lose on points to Chris Blinkhom.
However, Guernsey coach Graham Guilbert was his usual buoyant self afterwards.
‘That’s boxing,’ he said.
‘I thought Bradley could have done a lot more. He wasn’t his usual self, but he had a top boy there.
‘There were a couple of close ones there – it’s swings and roundabouts. You lose some, you win some – that’s the name of the game.
‘They all tried their best. I’m not disappointed at all.’
