GUERNSEY could have enjoyed an even greater margin of victory in this demolition job.

Captain Simon Sharrott felt that if more of their offloads had gone to hand, the hosts would have been pushing a triple-figure score, such was their superiority.

‘We have been training hard all week and what we have been working on is starting to come together,’ he said.

‘Our set piece was excellent, we stole a lot of ball and everything else comes off the back of the set piece.’

You had to sympathise with Effingham & Leatherhead, who reportedly had injury problems going into Saturday’s visit to Foote’s Lane and, after 31 minutes, had used all their replacements as players fell like flies.

A pieced-together Eagles side, who lie in the lower reaches of London Three South-West, were to prove no match for Guernsey’s power, pace and subtlety.

Largely due to the injuries, the match was disjointed throughout, but Guernsey produced the occasional piece of magic that was a joy to behold.
