ADRIAN LIHOU’S liking for the Guernsey Snooker Open Tournament went one better than 12 months ago when he lifted the Adie Locke Trophy at the North Legion Club on Saturday night.

Victory over Darren Hughes capped a fantastic day for Lihou, who had the toughest of draws in meeting both Martyn Desperques and Adam Shorto on the way.

The 2008 tournament saw Lihou lose to Desperques in the final, but revenge could not have come any sooner this year when the pair were drawn together in the first round.

This time Lihou won 2-0, courtesy of a black-ball respot and a classy break of 51.

Victory over Shorto in the quarter-finals was a little harder, with both players making 50-plus breaks to be tied at 1-1.

Lihou won the decider and was to drop just one more frame – against Rick de Garis in the semi – on his way to landing the title.

Having made it to the quarter-finals last year, Hughes enjoyed an even better run this time around to underline what an emerging talent he is.
