‘Get the job done’

TONY VANCE has adopted a ‘horses for courses’ policy ahead of facing Alderney on Saturday.0417445.jpg

The new Guernsey head coach has selected a 17-man squad to travel to the northern isle for the Cimandis Muratti semi-final.

Always a potential banana skin, Guernsey need to win the fixture to book themselves into the final against Jersey on Sunday 3 May at the Track.

‘I’ve picked a squad to do a job in Alderney,’ said Vance.

‘It’s been difficult to name.

‘We’ve got a training squad of 30 people who have been pushing for the [Alderney] squad, but as I told them this isn’t an open and shut squad.’

The island side’s next match after Alderney is the following weekend when they take on the Kent County League in the preliminary round of the 2009-10 FA Carlsberg National League System Cup.

‘There will be a different squad for that match,’ said Vance.

‘I know what I want to achieve against Kent and that might need different personnel.’

Vance has certainly picked an attack-minded squad to face the Ridunians on Saturday.

He has named four strikers in Craig Young, Simon Tostevin, Ross Allen and Marc McGrath plus Dom Heaume and Dave Rihoy who can also play up front.

At the back he has selected only four defenders in Sam Cochrane, Michael Wilson, Darren Martin and Joby Bourgaize.

But he also added tall North midfielder Alex Le Prevost into the mix, who is more than good enough to play in the centre of defence if needed.
