Saturday 21st March 2009, 1:58PM GMT.
GAGE DEMORE is flying the flag for Guernsey in the preliminary rounds of the ABA Western Counties Championships tonight.
The 15-year-old St Peter Port School student is taking on Jake Smithers, 14, of the Walcott ABC, Swindon, in the 39kg weight class.
The bout is taking place in Synwell, near Bristol.
If successful, the highly-rated Sarnian will get the chance to fight for the Western Counties title in Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday 4 April.
He will be joined by fellow Amalgamated Boys’ Club fighters Matt Jennings, Bradley Watson and Callum Pearson, who all received byes to the main Western Counties Championship.
If any of them are crowned western champions, they will go into the national competition.
‘With his style of boxing, he can go all the way,’ said the Amalgamated’s head coach, Graham Guilbert, about Demore.
