WHEN their earth bank was damaged by a lorry just a week before the start of the tourist season, a couple were worried holidaymakers would not be able to get to their apartments.

However, some unusual good Samaritans in the area were quickly on hand to help fix the problem.

The damage at David and Jane Russell’s home, Mille Fleurs in St Peter’s, happened on Tuesday.

‘It was about 11am when our next-door neighbour told us our bank had been damaged,’ said Mr Russell.

‘The road was impassable due to large chunks of earth and granite and it would be very hazardous for car drivers, especially if they came along at night.’

Slightly further up the road, Guernsey Electricity was laying some underground cables. While they did not cause the damage, the team of workers were quick to lend a hand.

‘The foreman came down to have a look and immediately got his team to help clear the road,’ said Mr Russell.
