Galacticos favourites to retain their crown

0407106.jpgTHE Image Group Premier Division enters its final week with Gremlin Galacticos favourites to land the title after drawing their top of the table clash with Ex-Service Chirpers.

It means the defending champions hold a four-point advantage with one match left, but the fact it is just that will come as much relief to the Chirpers.

With the Galacticos 6-2 to the good, the Chirpers’ season-long battle to take the Premier Division crown back to the Ex-Service looked all but over, until Martyn Desperques and Ian Platt won the last four frames.

The Galacticos early advantage came from Glenn Le Prevost and Adam Shorto (pictured), who built a 3-0 lead when the latter masterfully cleared up with a break of 94.

Graham Peel nicked a tight frame off Le Prevost, but the half ended with the Chirpers 5-1 down.

Victory for the Galacticos looked assured when Paul Le Sauvage won the night’s eighth frame, but Platt recovered to record a 10th straight league win and Desperques sealed his triumph with a 68 break.

Desperques’ season tally of 49 frames is already one better than he achieved last season and guarantees him at least a share of the aggregate trophy, as he is three frames ahead of nearest challenger Shorto.

It’s been a tough season for the Ex-Service Winkers and relegation became just a matter of time.
