GUERNSEY took a hammering in the inter-insular volleyball matches, but a 4-0 defeat did not reflect the high standard of play exhibited by each squad.

The day started with the Aon women’s B squad led by Karen Archenoul, who earned Guernsey the first points of the day, but Jersey took the first set.

In the second, middle players Rachel Gosling and Jen Lindfield put in excellent performances, both producing punishing spikes and defending the net with impenetrable blocks. Lindfield produced an awesome spike inside the attack line to warn Jersey against wayward first passes.

This helped the team to find confidence and they were soon taking advantage of Jersey’s mistakes and converted this into a match-levelling set win.

The third set was the closest of the match.
