EMILY TREBERT was the queen of the 2009 Sarnia Hotels Group Junior Closed badminton Tournament.
The under-16 player won six out of six finals competing in the singles, doubles and mixed in her age group and also the under-18 section. Trebert’s brother, Jordan, also reached six finals and was victorious in five, a feat also achieved by her regular mixed partner Glenn Le Tissier.
The tournament ran from late Friday afternoon through Saturday with the players playing best of three games to 21 points in the group rounds.
The youngest player, Alex Tapp, just 6, made a very impressive start to his badminton career winning one of his singles matches and a doubles match with Zak Dragun, 10.
Tapp and Dragun also took a game off the eventual winners of the under-10 boys doubles, Nazri Rouillard and Finley Whitmore, another newcomer.
An impressive performance was also put on by Tom Ogier in the group rounds, reaching the under-16 doubles final with Luke Le Tissier and coming close in several other events.
In the under-10 finals, Rouillard and Atlanta Allen each won two titles.
