EDUCATION might step in over the row between Forest Primary and Environment about the ‘dangerous’ pedestrian crossing outside the school.

Deputy David De Lisle, who sits on the department, will take the issue to the board to see if it agrees that action is needed to make the crossing safer.

The school’s head teacher and PTA want the crossing to be light-controlled because near misses happen on a weekly basis when vehicles do not stop for children on the zebra crossing.

PTA chairwoman Mandy Mills said she thought it would take a child being hurt before something was done.

Deputy De Lisle is backing the school’s call for improvements and will press for the Education board to ask Environment to reinstate traffic lights – which used to be in operation before Le Rondin opened.

‘We have to provide a safe environment for those children and others wishing to cross the road to the Forest School and between the two schools,’ he said.

‘The road is much busier now with two schools and a new Co-op store and 10 March saw another serious near-miss which is under investigation by the police.
