TENNIS fan Michael Terrot, 64, camped outside overnight to be the first to get his hands on tickets to see Heather Watson play in Guernsey.

Mr Terrot arrived outside Sportingbet’s offices on Thursday night to ensure he got a seat at the tennis star’s exhibition match next Saturday.

‘I wanted to be the first to get tickets,’ he said yesterday. ‘I knew that they were going to go quickly, so I wanted to make sure I got some.’

Mr Terrot said he wasn’t bothered about the low temperatures.

‘Every time I began to feel cold, I just thought of the gruelling training Heather has to go through.’

Mr Terrot sat in his chair from midnight to 7.30am. He had with him a blanket, flask, biscuits and back copies of the Guernsey Press to read.

He obtained the maximum of four tickets. The other three are for friends who helped him through a difficult time.

‘My doing this is a thank you to a few people,’ he said. ‘Firstly, getting three tickets for friends who supported me when my much-loved wife passed away. Secondly, to Heather Watson for her persistent training and, thirdly, to her parents who have been great examples of how as a parent you support your children.’
