Online usage higher than UK

NEARLY 80% of island homes now have a broadband internet connection.
And for the first time, the island’s usage has overtaken that of the UK.
According to a leading industry source, Guernsey is in the top 10 in Europe for high-speed internet access. This follows a 16% increase in fixed line broadband subscribers last year.
There are now more than 18,000 ADSL broadband customers, which is equivalent to nearly 80% of island homes. The UK figure is 70%.
Industry monitor Point Topic, a leading authority on broadband, ranked Guernsey 13th in the world for the number of subscribers per head of population at the end of last year. This was six places higher than nine months earlier.
‘The internet has changed beyond recognition in recent years,’ said Cable & Wireless Guernsey marketing director Paul Taylor.

Where are we ranked in the list of most extortionate prices for broadband? Gotta be near the top. Especially when you factor in the issues that a sizable proportion of subscribers are distant from their nearest exchange, which means paying £20-£25 for a barely half meg service.
