Police offer personal attack alarms to women in Town
Monday 30th March 2009, 3:29PM BST.
EXTRA police patrolled Town over the weekend, following an serious sexual assault in a lane off St Julian’s Avenue the week before.
Officers both in uniform and plain clothes spoke to people in St Julian’s Avenue, Weighbridge and associated areas.
An incident caravan was also used to help combat the inclement weather but Detective Inspector Ashley Nicholas said from the inquiry’s point of view it had been disappointing.
‘We spoke to quite a number of people but there was no new information that could assist our investigation,’ he said.
‘I think the rain might have hampered things because there weren’t many people in Town.’
Officers carried papers giving a description of the man who police would like to talk in relation to the incident, which happened at about 2.30am on Saturday 21 March.
DI Nicholas said this morning that police hoped to receive the results of a forensic examination within the next day or two.
‘We are still appealing for anybody who was in the area at that time who has not come forward to do so, or to anybody who might have information that could progress the inquiry to contact us,’ he said.

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
Forget the panic alarms publish a photofit and then interview everyone who resembles him hardly rocket science.

Agree with Andy. Nice big of PR by Guernsey Police, but what is the current status on finding the attacker? I was beginning to wonder if Guernsey Police were expecting the person to hand himself in. Surely the Police should be using blanket media, print, radio and TV to provide updates, leads and information. A description, photofit, profile, etc. Somebody knows the full story or the person. Rare event in Guernsey but are we supposed to have similar short memories on the subject, Guernsey Police?

While these alarms are a great idea, how many people when attacked will say’ oh excuse me mr/ms attacker, will you wait a minute to let me get my personal attack alarm out of my handbag’ I think none, and even if they did, will the attacker really let them!?
