ANDY PRIAULX was quick to congratulate Jenson Button on his Australian Grand Prix victory.
Brawn GP became the first team to win its debut race since Wolf in 1977 as the British driver led the race from start to finish to record the second win of his F1 career.
‘I was ecstatic and jumping around,’ said three-times World Touring Car champion Priaulx, a close friend of the Somerset driver.
‘What I liked most about it was that everybody had written him off but I believe that, with the right tools and equipment, he can be a world champion.’
Button could have been world champion last year had he driven for McLaren, said Priaulx, but up to a fortnight ago did not know if he would even have a drive this season.
It summed up the world of motor racing which, Priaulx said, was the reason he loved it.

Andy Priaulx has hit the F1 nail on the head by saying “with the right tools and equipment” – it isn’t always the best driver that wins the Driver’s Championship but the one with the best car.
Jenson Button is a classic example of this – nowhere last year, now touted as a potential champion. The difference: the car.
