Fog gets Easter holidays off to a chaotic start
Saturday 4th April 2009, 2:29PM BST.
FOG grounded flights at the start of the Easter holidays.
The mail and paper planes, and some early flights, managed to land before fog shrouded the runway yesterday morning.
But by 8am the airport was at a standstill. The fog did not begin to clear until 11.
‘We are generally running about two hours late,’ said airport director Colin Le Ray.
‘It is very busy as it is the start of the school holidays, and we are unlikely to catch-up during the day. We will work late to get everybody off.’
Passengers were largely resigned to the delays.
Bride-to-be Daniella Cherry was not too concerned. She was supposed to fly out on the 10.20 to Gatwick with eight of her friends and family. They are due to fly on to Mauritius today for her wedding next week.
‘The kids have been great,’ she said.
‘We knew there would be delays as soon as we looked out the window this morning.’
