‘Just being close does not make us the same’

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE president Paul Luxon has ruled out a closer working relationship with the group’s Jersey counterpart.
Speaking at this year’s AGM, Mr Luxon (pictured) was asked by Deputy John Gollop whether Chamber had considered closer ties with Jersey in light of each island’s Institute of Directors recently announcing a joined-up approach.
He said that while Chamber had talked about it in the past, it had never spoken about the specifics of setting up jointly with Jersey.
‘While it would be a great idea, I could not see it happening.
‘Just because we are close does not mean we have the same outlook and the same culture.
‘We applaud the initiative of those who have made it happen, but at this time I don’t feel Chamber’s energies would be best served by doing that.’
However, despite closer ties with Jersey being ruled out, Mr Luxon said the past year had shown Chamber improving and developing its relationship with other Guernsey business organisations.
