INCLUSION in the OECD’s white list has taken Guernsey into a different league of finance centres, the head of GuernseyFinance has said.
After the G20 summit last week the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development published a list naming and shaming secretive and uncooperative jurisdictions.
The OECD split centres into three lists – black (uncooperative), grey (tax havens and other financial centres that have not implemented internationally agreed standards, despite having committed to do so), and white (the 40 jurisdictions that have substantially implemented internationally agreed tax information exchange standards).
Guernsey was on the white list and Peter Niven (pictured), chief executive of GuernseyFinance, which is responsible for promoting the sector internationally, felt vindicated by the result.
‘We have been working hard for many years to ensure that Guernsey is positioned correctly within international finance centres and it is the work we have done in terms of our regulation, our legislation and also the mindset of how we do business that has come together and finally been recognised at the very highest level,’ he said.

It was once mentioned by some learned fellow; that even weeds, smelled sweeter than rotting roses.
So call it what you will: A tax haven is still a tax haven, for all the nice words spoken about it; it still is a thorn, because of the 10 business.
