Zero tolerance message from police follows ‘Neets’ report
Monday 6th April 2009, 1:00PM BST.
POLICE have issued a stern warning following the release of a survey detailing the range of drugs used by local youngsters on the fringes of society.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Dowding (pictured) said anyone who decided to drink to excess or get involved in the taking or possession of controlled drugs must realise the serious implications.
‘Apart from the obvious health risks with regard to drugs, and indeed alcohol, this activity may result in a court appearance,’ he said. ‘The individual may face a fine or imprisonment, but the penalties can be more far-reaching.
‘Loss of current employment and restrictions on future career opportunities, possible restrictions on travel to various countries and the embarrassment and stigma associated with the publicity that a court appearance generates can all be consequences of such actions.
‘The unwelcome press coverage can also impact adversely beyond the individual to family members.’
