Carry on laughing

ORGANISERS Nick Creed and Andy Fothergill are putting up the money for this year’s Guernsey Festival of Comedy.
They had been looking for a £15,000 headline sponsor but, when one could not be found, they chose to risk their own money so the festival could continue.
‘There’s a lot of talk of doom and gloom in the island at the moment,’ said Mr Creed (pictured).
‘Because of this, Andy and I felt it was more important than ever to keep the Festival of Comedy alive and give people a good laugh.’
But the lack of a sponsor means there will be no free shows this year.
Mr Fothergill said it was sad, but unavoidable, that there would be no free shows or community-based events this year.
‘These elements of the festival were made possible by the kind support of our sponsors in previous years, so we hope it’s something we can bring back in the future.
‘But it’s a shame because our matinee film shows for Age Concern were so well received.’

In a way I suppose it is a shame about the no comedy show this year.
But you were pipped at the post by our ruling body of comedians.

More like a tragedy really, but cheer up the oil tanker you own has been renamed Sarnia Cherie.
Both your ships were at Birkenhead this morning. They do look good, even though the Sarnia Liberty has been anchored at Liverpool since 19 January.

I’m sure I read somewhere that the Sarnia Liberty has a split overhead sidevalve crankshaft cotter ringpin problem in the portside generator grommit manifold casing and is at Birkenhead awaiting parts…..
