Just not Guernsey’s day as post thwarts Hutton

JERSEY under-18s retained the Inter-Insular Trophy at Springfield on Sunday with man-of-the-match Barry Keith scoring the only goal of a hard-fought game against Guernsey.
Keith latched on to a long cross-field pass from Jersey Wanderers teammate Jay Reid and, second-favourite to get the ball, he poked it past defender Rob Le Corre before beating Guernsey’s goalkeeper from 10 yards.
It was a 52nd-minute goal Jersey richly deserved as they had created the better chances in the opening half.
But with just a goal between the teams, the visitors were never out of it and twice in the next eight minutes Guernsey’s Nigel Hutton (pictured) was denied by the woodwork.
Jersey sat back towards the end and Matt Loaring had appeals for a penalty kick turned down when he appeared to stand on the ball at the same time as a challenge went in on him.
Time then quickly ran out for Guernsey, and Jersey became the first home winners in the past six years of competition.
Jersey manager Dave Walsh said: ‘Muratti games are always tight and it was no different today. Collectively we played well – I thought we shaded it and I’m delighted.’
