Press is on shortlist for national award

The Guernsey Press has been shortlisted in the 2009 Regional Press Awards, it emerged yesterday.
A panel of 40 judges was involved in earmarking it as a potential newspaper of the year out of all the UK’s regional evening titles.
Awards sponsor Press Gazette editor Dominic Ponsford said: ‘The work of the regional press is the groundstone of Britain’s journalism industry.’
Guernsey Press editor Richard Digard (pictured) said that being shortlisted was a huge honour for the newspaper.
‘Being selected from among our peers like this is a big lift for what we try to do on a daily basis – produce a decent newspaper for Guernsey.’
The other contenders for newspaper of the year (daily/Sunday below 40,000 circulation) are: Cambridge News, Express & Echo, Exeter, Gloucestershire Echo, the Jersey Evening Post, News & Star, Carlisle, and The Evening Star, Ipswich.
