Queen’s Garden Party for Bougourds

0573263RUTH BOUGOURD has bought one of the Queen’s old racehorses.

The chairwoman of the Guernsey Race Club (pictured) and her husband Tom recently purchased Garden Party, who was once part of the Queen’s extensive collection of horses.

The five-year-old was trained by Ron Harris in Wales but will now be stabled and trained by the Bougourds at their Castel farm.

In his last run-out on Friday 27 February, Garden Party came second at Lingfield.

Bougourd is planning to next run it on Bank Holiday Monday 4 May, in the one-mile SG Hambros Handicap, which is second on the card of the Guernsey Flat Race Meeting on L’Ancresse Common.

But Bougourd declined to back her own horse.

‘I don’t know how it’s going to be,’ she said. ‘It’s totally different to what he’s been used to. We’ll just have to see.’

The Bougourds already own Glen Ree and are planning to run in the UK in August.

They have no plans to run their new horse in the UK, but are looking to have him compete in the summer’s Jersey races.

Bougourd also said that financial backers were still needed for two of the meeting’s races.
