CASTEL senior constable Barry Paint has had to chase young quad bikers from the St Germain nature reserve.
Residents had reported several incidents where motorbikes and quads had been seen on the land, leaving a trail of tyre marks.
‘The day before yesterday I came here, but they could run faster than me,’ he said.
‘The first day I came up I had them cold, but my car alarm went off and they were gone. The same evening there were three youths and one quad bike. I went towards them, but they legged it.
‘It’s just a shame. It’s completely against the law to do it. They must know that or why run away?’
The area is administered by the Environment Department, but the douzaine has been responding to complaints.
An Environment spokesman said that there had been several reports of damage in the last week.

Dont these kid have a track where they can take these bikes and parents who can supervise them?
Obviously not. Much more fun going around public land. Wish the constables would chase off the dog owners with their 4WD pooing machines!
Maybe the Parents who have bought these machines for these children could approach the states to ask if a place could be found for them to use their bikes ? It seems silly to allow the sale of them if there is no place to ride them. Im with you on the pooing machines Jackie, nowt worse than getting in your car with a load of it stuck to the sole of your shoe.
Looks like Barry Paint ought to be careful or he’ll end up in court again for causing an accident. If there are laws being broken why not just get plod involved.
