THE Easter Open Tournament witnessed its best finals in years at the Rohais Badminton Halls on Saturday.

‘They were excellent, all of them apart from the mixed doubles went to three sets,’ said tournament secretary Sue Naftel.

‘They were the best we’ve seen in a long, long time.’

And if there was one person who particularly enjoyed the day, that had to be Tom Armstrong.

The 23-year-old former junior Great Britain star, who was part of the large Loughborough University contingent, won a clean sweep of titles as he triumphed in the men’s singles and doubles and in the mixed doubles as well.

‘Unbelievable. I wasn’t expecting that,’ said the doubles specialist afterwards.

‘It’s quite a surprise. In the mixed I thought we had a really good chance as we’ve been playing well.

‘But the men’s doubles I thought we were 50/50 and the singles was a bit of a surprise.’
