National silver medal for Carl

CARL THOMSON put in the race of his life to win a silver medal at the national championships over Easter.
The Sarnia Walking Club star claimed second place in the UKA/RWA National 20 kilometres Road Championships held at Shrewsbury Sports Village, finishing just outside his personal best on a very tough course.
‘Fantastic . . . that’s the best race I’ve ever had – phenomenal,’ said the man who is doing everything he can to win himself a place in Guernsey’s Commonwealth Games team in Delhi next year.
The only disappointment was he missed the thrill of standing on the winners’ podium.
‘We had to leave early for our flight, so they are going to post the medal over.’
The field of walkers were competing on a purpose-built cycling racecourse over 1,000 metres, meaning 20 laps for his event.
Thomson intended to start positively after his recent disappointment in Switzerland and quickly settled into sub 100-minute pace.
