GUERNSEY’S Thai community is worried about the impact of the Bangkok protests on their loved ones back home.

Although the anti-government demonstrations in Thailand’s capital broke up yesterday, those living in Guernsey said they had heard little from family members.

Yen Wongsarak, who runs Sawatdi Restaurant in St Peter Port, said she was very worried.

‘People in Thailand, they are taking it very seriously,’ she said.

There are news restrictions in place in the country so it was difficult to obtain any information, she said

‘I have family over there. Things have closed for five weeks for the Thai New Year. We will hopefully know more after this week.

‘I’m very worried and disappointed about the situation. It’s not very good at all. It’s terrible.’
