Leale’s Yard development ‘a positive’
Thursday 16th April 2009, 2:29PM BST.

Is this how the Bridge could look? Plans submitted by the Co-op for the redevelopment of Leale’s Yard include 14,450 square metres of retail space on the site. (0753881)
BRIDGE businesses believe the Leale’s Yard development will be positive for the area – if traffic and parking worries are addressed.
Bridge Traders’ Association spokesman and Beekers owner Brian Le Prevost said the sooner work started, the better.
‘I’m delighted that something is being done. The Bridge is a very lively and busy place and this will make it busier – it is excellent,’ he said.
Development should help the area.
‘The housing is a good thing. There is already traffic, so it is something we will have to put up with.’
He hoped the new development would fit with the ambience of the area.
‘It needs to be tastefully done. It will need to incorporate something of Guernsey, such as the use of stonework. It would be nice to have local features.’
Many traders were concerned that 800 new parking spaces planned for the site could lead to the spaces outside their shops being removed.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
In principle it all looks very nice but what about the quality of the homes, shops, open spaces. The homes that are planned are at the lower end of the market which would indicate that it would be families with young children and not established second home owners or retirement/investment. The Bridge (in some people’s view) has a certain reputation and including higher priced homes might go someway to dispel this concept.

Apache.
‘The homes are at the lower end’….. Do you mean pricewise or ground level wise in which case they will be the first ones to flood if the doomsdayers are correct about global warming. Most of the site is below the current high tide level.
