Chamber of Commerce backs £100m. development of Bridge

PLANS to transform the Bridge have been backed by the Chamber of Commerce.
According to its director, Barry Cash (pictured), the £100m. development proposal would give the area a much-needed boost.
He said Chamber, which has more than 600 active members, backed the Channel Island Co-operative Society’s plans which are currently with the Environment Department awaiting approval.
The vision for the redevelopment of Leale’s Yard includes provision for 170 new homes, 815 parking spaces and 14,450sq.m. of retail space on the Bridge site.
In addition, plans for Lowlands Road includes the option for 11 or seven houses and nine apartments.
‘I think anything that is going to regenerate that area of The Bridge is great, particularly as it’s going to increase the availability of housing and accommodation. It will do a lot for the area,’ said Mr Cash.
He was also confident that the Co-op would be able to fill the vast amount of retail space it plans to create, a quarter of which will be used for a new Co-op store.

This happens a lot with Chamber ‘claiming’ it represents 600 members. Husband doesn’t remember being asked.
