Leaping lizards! Look at what popped up at B&Q…

Friday 17th April 2009, 2:29PM BST.

lizardA B&Q worker got more than he bargained for in a recent shipment to the store.

Customer advisor Tom Fallaize was helping to unwrap cellophane on a consignment of plants when a lizard jumped out at him.

‘It started running across the car park but we managed to catch it with a plant pot. It started hissing at us,’ he said.

Mr Fallaize and his colleagues took the Italian Wall Lizard to the Guernsey Aquarium & Aquatic Centre where it was it was placed with another lizard found at Le Friquet Garden Centre last year.

The centre’s plant manager, John McKane, said he had been sceptical about reports that a lizard had been spotted at the premises for several weeks.

‘Somebody said they had seen a lizard, but I didn’t believe them. Then, when we were moving some bags of compost it popped out.

‘It was about five or six inches long. We didn’t know what to feed it, so we took it to the aquarium.’
