Professionals provide testing season opener

GUERNSEY face a tough curtain raiser to the new cricket season.

The senior island side are taking on Sussex Academy in two 50-over matches at Port Soif today and tomorrow.

Dave Hearse’s side were absolutely destroyed by the young professionals at the Hove County Ground last year.

‘It’s going to be exceedingly tough as it’s our first game of the year and they are going to be very good,’ said Hearse.

‘They gave us a lesson at Hove last year and it showed the gulf between professional cricketers and island cricketers.

‘But they’ll find Port Soif different to Hove, especially at this time of year with the low bounce.

‘Hopefully they’ll find runs hard to come by.’
