THIS year’s Grand National winning jockey will ride at the Guernsey race meeting.

Mon Mome, ridden by Liam Treadwell (pictured), caused one of the greatest upsets in Grand National history when the 100-1 outside chance won the biggest event in the horse racing calendar earlier this month.

It was the 23-year-old Treadwell’s first time round the tall fences of Aintree and it made him an overnight celebrity. He is now going to make his Guernsey debut at L’Ancresse Common in the annual meeting on Bank Holiday Monday 4 May.

‘I feel privileged to be wanted and I’m looking forward to a whole new experience,’ he said.

‘I’ve spoken to jockeys, who have ridden there in the past and they said they were all made to feel very welcome and that it was a wonderful experience. I’m glad to have the opportunity and I’m going to make the most of it.’

Treadwell is hoping to have a mount in each of the five races on the card. His visit is being supported by Aurigny and St Pierre Park Hotel and has been organised by Zoe Jones.
