AN IMPERIOUS Martyn Desperques whitewashed Gary Britton to claim the CI title.

The 25-year-old Guernsey champion looked a different class to his Jersey counterpart as he won the best of seven frames match 4-0 at the Ex-Servicemen’s Club on Friday night.

And that was no mean feat as Britton is certainly no mug having defeated Ken Doherty at Fort Regent last year.

The final took less than two hours.

‘Happy days,’ said Desperques (pictured) afterwards.

‘I just played really solidly and I didn’t give him much of a sniff all match, which was a good thing because he’s a good player. Disappointed for the crowd that it was not longer, but the result is what matters at the end of the day.’

Desperques’ biggest rival and the man he beat to win the Guernsey crown a couple of weeks ago, Adam Shorto, was part of the large partisan crowd that got behind Desperques all match.

Shorto knows Desperques’ game better than most.

‘Martyn was very, very solid,’ he said.
