Take a long run for the money
Monday 20th April 2009, 2:29PM BST.
RUNNERS can turn their efforts into life-saving supplies this weekend.
The ninth Save the Children quarter-marathon is on Sunday and organisers are asking islanders to help get essential equipment to the world’s most vulnerable children.
Paul Salazar of event organiser RG Falla said every penny counts.
‘We tend to forget that there are well over a million children directly affected by disasters around the world, yet it is surprisingly easy to help them,’ he said.
‘For instance, just £1.50 will feed a malnourished child for a day – surely that’s got to be worth a run along the west coast?’
The annual race is open to runners of all abilities. The course is approximately six-and-a-half miles-long and the route is from Crabby Jack’s at Vazon to L’Eree and back.
