FIRST TOWER UNITED retained the JFA Centenary Bowl in a dramatic 4-3 sudden-death penalty shoot-out victory after a 3-3 draw after extra time against Sylvans at Springfield on Sunday afternoon.

Jersey’s champions therefore claimed the women’s Upton for the third consecutive year.

They could have been celebrating victory much earlier but they failed to capitalise on a host of opportunities.

Sylvans goalkeeper Kate Le Gallez made two good saves to deny Louise Van der Vliet while defender Anna Robert made a good block to deny Jodie Botterill.

Tower’s misery in front of goal continued in the opening 15 minutes of the second half when Botterill and Van der Vliet both missed the target with just the goalkeeper to beat.

Meanwhile, midfielder Lisa McLaughlin was unfortunate to see her effort from 25 yards cannon back into play off the inside of a post.

However, Botterill did manage to open the scoring before Becky Warren equalised for the visitors.
