Deputy protests over plans for pub

Tuesday 21st April 2009, 2:29PM BST.

0103371FORMER Environment minister David De Lisle has spoken out against the latest plans for St Saviour’s Tavern.

Recent proposals for The Ritz do not include a bar, as the original plans had done.

Deputy De Lisle said he has sent a representation to the Environment Department about the importance of a parish pub.

‘This location had provided an important social venue and meeting place for parishioners,’ he said.

‘Without it people are left without a bar in walking distance from their properties in an area that has become quite densely populated.

‘The current proposals call for three units of accommodation, but appear to exclude a bar at St Saviour’s Tavern. ‘

The Longfrie is not that far away and is desperate for the trade. The regulars can make this their new regular.

Paul the Longfrie is a long haul up the hill if you walk to you’re local, and with the problem of drink driving nobody wants to drive to there local.

If you are desperate for a drink get a taxi if you can’t be bothered to walk up a hill to get to a pub. Unreal.

Dolly, people don’t have to be ‘desperate’ for a drink to go to their local. With the cost of alcohol and taxi fares it isn’t economically viable for all of society to visit their local in the way you suggest. If you can afford that then fair play……just don’t assume everyone can blow cash that way…..now that’s unreal!

The local pub used to be a place for the local community to meet. The problem is that far too often community spirit is taken away from the community by the powers that be. do we complain? No. We are too apethetic to care nowadays and the non-smokers stamp out the smokers and the non-drinkers stamp out the drinkers…..where do we end up? Not even knowing our local community or even caring…..that’s sad and unreal.
