THE Fisherman’s Co-op is being wound down.

The company, which has provided fresh fish and bait to the island for over 40 years, is closing due to a change in the industry.

However, its various divisions will continue to be run independently.

Director Andy Le Prevost said there had been reasonable interest in each side of the business.

‘If we were to lose this, it would be disastrous for the industry,’ he said.

‘We are confident that it will continue and move forward.

‘We are just happy that we have had a lot of assistance from all the authorities involved to keep the industry for the fisherman.

‘We would like to thank them for their assistance so far.’

Mr Le Prevost said it had been a difficult few months and it had taken a lot of hard work to save the business.

I guess that when a company is floundering something has to be done.

I suppose it’s better to split the company up rather than being the sole owner.

If I had known about the split I would most probably have tried to invest a few squid in the company.
