Family death letter is a new twist to the Nigerian scam

Friday 24th April 2009, 2:29PM BST.

Brian BolderstonA MAN told yesterday how he received a letter saying relatives had died in a rail crash.

It was a scam.

Chiropractor Brian Bolderston (pictured) was not taken in by it and handed the mail to police.

‘I was told that a relative, Andreas Bolderston, and his family had been killed and from the English phrasing it was a typical Nigerian scam,’ said Mr Bolderston.

The letter, which bore a Spanish stamp and postmark, offered him a 20% share in a multi-million dollar fortune if he dialled a given telephone number.

‘I took it to police because I felt it was a particularly nasty variant on the Nigerian scam.

‘I think elderly people particularly could have been taken in, not necessarily for monetary purposes, and might become quite concerned about it.’

I have also received several emails in past pointing towards similar type of fraud and scam. I just ignored those.
