A LOCAL man had a lucky escape when his car rolled over in four-car smash last night.

The man, identified by witnesses as John Cadot, 73, was driving his navy blue Citroen along Glategny Esplanade towards the roundabout at 5.20pm when he apparently hit a car coming the other way and his vehicle flipped onto its roof.

The emergency services were quickly on the scene to help Mr Cadot, who was trapped.

Fire and Rescue Service duty officer Andy Mauger said all the services were trained to deal with events like this.

‘It is a very difficult scenario to deal with.’

They made the area safe and the Ambulance and Rescue Service worked to get Mr Cadot out.

‘We had to extricate the patient from the vehicle on a spinal board,’ said Ambulance and Rescue Service duty officer Andy Walford. He was assessed and found to have no injuries. He is a very lucky man.’

Mr Cadot was taken to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital as a precaution.
